Police deployment in full force on KZN roads as holiday travel peaks

Law enforcement officers are out in full force on KwaZulu-Natal’s roads as travellers have started making their way to their holiday destinations in the province.

On Friday, a peak of 850 vehicles per hour was recorded at tollgates on the N3 from Gauteng towards Durban.

KZN Transport Department spokesperson Ndabezinhle Sibiya says six unroadworthy vehicles were suspended at a roadblock at the Mariannhill Toll Plaza in Durban on Friday.

“The MEC has warned motorists who are violating traffic regulations. He has assured the law-abiding citizens that law enforcement officials will maintain high visibility. They have been augmented by the national traffic police deployed by the national minister. So both the MEC and the national minister are briefing each other on a daily basis to ensure that all the operations that are executed are assisting in terms of the decrease of fatalities as well as the accidents.”
