Police confident of ‘watertight’ case in Sindiso Magaqa murder

The SAPS is confident that it has a watertight case against the former municipal manager of the uMzimkhulu Local Municipality in KwaZulu-Natal.

The 55-year-old man was re-arrested on Monday in connection with the gunning down of the African National Congress Youth League secretary Sindiso Magaqa.

He will appear in a local magistrate’s court today.

The man was previously arrested in 2018 alongside several others, including the late mayor of the municipality, Mluleki Ndobe. One of the accused, a hitman, was recently sentenced to 25 years’ imprisonment.

The national police spokesperson, Athlenda Mathe says, “From the onset, we’ve always had overwhelming evidence. However, unfortunately, the charges were withdrawn in court, citing insufficient evidence. We feel that we have additional information, it’s not necessarily new information because we’ve always maintained that the former municipal manager, as well as the late mayor who committed suicide and a certain businessman were the masterminds behind the killing of Sindiso Magaqa. So, we are expecting him to be charged again with murder and so on.”
