Police captain granted R50,000 bail in multi-million fraud scandal

A 53-year-old police captain has been granted R50,000 bail at the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court. Johannes Jansen van Rensburg is facing charges of fraud and theft for allegedly defrauding the South African Police Service Protection and Security Services division of millions of rand.

He made his first appearance in court today.

The captain is currently on suspension following his arrest at the weekend.

His arrest follows an internal investigation into suspicious transactions, which revealed he allegedly manipulated the system to withdraw millions of funds meant for the Presidential Protection Services.
