Two suspects have been arrested in Delft and Steenberg in Cape Town in separate incidents for the illegal possession of firearms and ammunition.
Police spokesperson Wesley Twigg says police members in Delft were conducting crime prevention operations when members noticed and followed a vehicle at the N-2 Gateway.
Twigg says members conducted a search and found a firearm with ammunition. He says the suspect was subsequently arrested.
Twigg says in a separate incident, members of the Steenberg Crime Prevention Unit were conducting stop-and-search operations in the area following sporadic shooting incidents.
“The members noticed a male walking in the road in Saxo Street, who tried to evade them when he saw the police vehicle approaching. The members apprehended the male and found a 9mm pistol with ammunition in his possession. The 25-year-old suspect faces charges for the illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition. The suspects are due to appear in the Bellville and Wynberg Magistrates’ Court once they have been charged.”
