Pirates aim to make history in Nedbank Cup final

Orlando Pirates assistant coach Mandla Ncikazi is hopeful about making history in the Nedbank Cup Final against Kaizer Chiefs.

Pirates aim to be the first team to win the Nedbank Cup three times in a row, following their success with coach Jose Riveiro.

They have recently won five of their last Soweto Derby games against Kaizer Chiefs.

However, Kaizer Chiefs lead with 13 Nedbank Cup wins, compared to Pirates’ 10.

Despite Chiefs’ struggles this season under coach Nasreddine Nabi, Pirates’ coach Mandla Ncikazi says they will not underestimate their opponents.

“Currently they have scored 14 goals, I think they are the top scorers … only conceded two [goals]. So it won’t be [an] easy match. But as usual [we] will play this match and give it our best shot and create history by becoming a first team in the PSL era to win three time consecutively,” adds Ncikazi.

Meanwhile, Kaizer Chiefs assistant coach Cedric Kaze acknowledges the significance of the final, saying his team understands the mission clearly.

Kaze has worked with coach Nasreddine Nabi at Young Africans where they secured six trophies in two seasons.

He shares his thoughts about the upcoming cup final against Orlando Pirates.

“The mood is good, it’s a cup final. But we haven’t played in the final for six [years] and we know how important it is for the club, management, players and [the] fans,” explains Kaze.
