1 minute

Waste management company in Johannesburg, Pikitup says employees have resumed waste collection duties, following a two-day stoppage over the suspension of transport services from home to work for safety reasons.

According to the Pikitup spokesperson Muzi Mkhwanazi, 10 out of 12 Pikitup depots are actively serving the residents of the city by collecting their waste bins.

He says residents with scheduled waste collection can place their bins outside for pick up.

“The following depots are servicing residents at Randburg, Avalon, Marlboro, Orange Farm, Southdale, Norwood, Central Camp, Zondi, Roodepoort and Midrand. Workers at these depots resumed duties while management and their representatives and other stakeholders continue discussions to resolve the ongoing grievances.”

Pikitup employees from all 12 depots participated in a work stoppage on Wednesday and Thursday, culminating in a protest outside the Mayor’s office.
