Piet Retief gets a new boarding school

The Mpumalanga government is set to open another rural boarding school in Mkhondo in Piet Retief.

More than R700 million was spent on the construction of the school. The no-fee boarding school boasts 32 classrooms, a science lab, recreational centre and computer lab.

It is the sixth boarding school to be built to address challenges experienced by learners and teachers from small and multi-grade schools.

More than 400 primary school learners, including Grade R’s, are enrolled at the school.

The provincial government hopes to provide quality education to learners from rural areas and those who live below the breadline.
