President Cyril Ramaphosa.
ActionSA parliamentary leader, Athol Trollip says the fact that President Cyril Ramaphosa has the Phala Phala scandal hanging over his head means that he is not inclined to take serious action against corrupt implicated officials.
This follows the cabinet reshuffle which saw Thembi Simelane being moved from Justice to Human Settlements Minister.
Simelane is accused of being involved in the VBS scandal.
Trollip says Ramaphosa should have fired or placed Simelane on special leave instead of moving her to a different department.
Trollip says this was a cowardly move.
“Public Protector wrote back to me this week to say that they would now investigate the loan and I think that was the final straw that made the president do what he did, which is a cabinet reshuffle. Which I called cowardly. Because in true President Ramaphosa’s style, instead of acting and taking action against somebody implicated in corruption, he simply shuffled the deck chairs on the Titanic and moved her from Justice to Human Settlements,” says Trollip.
Ramaphosa has also appointed Phumzile Mgcina, as the Deputy Minister of Mineral and Petroleum Resources, while Judith Nemadzinga-Tshabalala is appointed the Deputy Minister of Employment and Labour.
