Traffic light
Gauteng Traffic Police are warning pedestrians to exercise extreme caution when crossing roads.
This follows an incident where a male pedestrian was killed by a vehicle, early this morning on the N1 Freeway next to Allendale offramp in Midrand, Gauteng.
The province’s Traffic Police spokesperson Sello Maremane says pedestrians are urged to utilise designated pedestrian bridges when crossing the road. Maremane has emphasised the importance of wearing visible clothing, especially at night.
“Pedestrians should walk on a sidewalk or pavement as far as possible of the edge of a public road while facing oncoming traffic. Where there is a traffic light, pedestrians may only cross the road while the robot is green considering the presence of other road users. Jay walking is strictly prohibited. Gauteng traffic police remain on high alert.”
