Patients dissatisfied with condition of Kuruman Hospital

A video showing patients sleeping on the floor at Kuruman Hospital in the Northern Cape has caused an uproar on social media.

But it’s nothing new for the hospital.

In 2023, pregnant women were sleeping on the hospital floors and at some stage, bathing with cold water.

Following the videos that went viral, Health MEC Maruping Lekwene met with the hospital management last week. But patients say not much has changed since that engagement.

“My experience with that hospital is that they don’t care about patients. The treatment in that hospital is not good at all. If it was, my husband would still be alive. They didn’t change his drips. He was not given food on time.”

Another patient says the Hospital is not in a good condition.

“I am not satisfied about the state of this hospital. People come here and end up sleeping on the floor. Patients are not receiving the care that they deserve. The hospital is very dirty. I am not pleased at all.”
