Parly to outline work of Ad Hoc Committee on National Security

Parliament’s Police and Justice and Constitutional Development committees are meeting this morning to discuss the terms of reference that will outline the work of an Ad Hoc Committee, as a means for the institution to look into issues of national security.

This comes after National Assembly (NA) Speaker Thoko Didiza instructed these two portfolio committees as well as the Joint Standing Committee on Intelligence to consider on an urgent basis revelations by the KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi of political interference in the South African Police Service (SAPS) at the highest level.

Last week, the committees decided that it would recommend to the NA that an ad hoc committee is the best vehicle to look into these matters.

They must report back to the house on Wednesday.
