Parliament Committee overseeing Presidency set to elect chairperson


The newly established Parliament’s Portfolio Committee on the Presidency will elect its chairperson on Wednesday. 

The National Assembly approved the establishment of the committee last year. The aim of the committee is to oversee the Presidency’s budget and administration. It will also seek to enhance the accountability of the executive. 

The committee will call the President and Deputy President to appear before it once a year.  

The ANC has designated the party’s deputy chief whip Doris Mampane, Supra Mahumapelo, Mikateko Mahlaule and Anthea Ramoboleng to the committee.  

The Democratic Alliance (DA) has fielded its chief whip George Michalikis and his deputy Baxolile Nodada while UMkhonto Wesizwe (MK) Party has put forward Mmabatho Mokoena-Zondi and Des van Rooyen. 

The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) has party leader Julius Malema, Patriotic Alliance, ActionSA, United African Transformation, Freedom Front Plus and Rise Mzansi will also be represented on the committee.
