A Patriotic Alliance supporter celebrating a victory
The Patriotic Alliance (PA) has won both wards that were being contested in by-elections in George, in the Western Cape.
Raphael Goeieman won in Ward 17 in Conville, while Marchell Kleynhans won in ward 27 in Pacaltsdorp, both are former Democratic Alliance (DA) wards.
The DA, PA, African National Congress (ANC) and the Truth and Solidarity Movement contested both wards.
The outcome is not likely affecting the current George council, after the DA renewed its coalition with the FF plus and brought four of its councillors on board.
Together, the DA, the FF Plus and ACDP now hold 30 out of 55 council seats, various political parties hold other seats.
The by-elections were called after three DA councillors resigned in October and November 2025 and joined the PA.
Another by-election will take place in February.
