PA videos could have affected Joshlin Smith probe: Lombard

Patriotic Alliance (PA) leader Gayton McKenzie’s name was brought up during the Joshlin Smith kidnapping and human trafficking case at the Western Cape High Court sitting in Saldanha Bay today.

During cross-examination, investigating officer Captain Wesley Lombard said McKenzie and his party’s members were active in the area after Joshlin’s disappearance, and they posted many videos on social media.

He suggested that the videos could have affected their investigations.

Meanwhile, a trial-within-a-trial is underway in the case.

It is focusing on allegations that police tortured the accused Jacquen “Boeta” Appollis and Steveno Van Rhyn.

Defence attorney Fanie Harmse has argued that confessions in March last year were made under duress.

The court will determine what can or cannot be admissible.
