The Patriotic Alliance (PA) has won the much-contested by-election in Johannesburg’s Ward 29.
The position became vacant after the death of an ANC councillor in July.

The PA also managed to win another seat, in ward 6 in the Swellendam Local Municipality in the Western Cape.

The ANC managed to retain Ward 15 in the AB Xuma Municipality in the Eastern Cape, Ward 4 in the Langeberg Local Municipality in the Western Cape and Ward 2 in the Musina Local Municipality.
The ANC welcomes the recent by-election results and expresses its full gratitude to the people of Ward 15 (Echibini Mantlaneni) Dr AB Xuma, Chris Hani, Eastern Cape, for their strong demonstration of commitment to the ANC.
