The Oyster Bay fires have been brought under control and no further flare-ups hav been reported.
The Oyster Bay fire that led to evacuations in the Kouga municipality, in the Eastern Cape, on Saturday, has been brought under control. Helicopters have been dispatched to ensure it does not get out of control again.
Meanwhile, no further flare-ups have been reported in Nelson Mandela Bay, as of Saturday night. The Woodridge fire also remains under control.
Nelson Mandela Bay Acting Mayor, Garry van Niekerk says, “Fires in Kouga that started on Wednesday have been largely contained at this stage. Regarding the three original fires that started, teams are conducting mop-up operations to ensure they don’t flare up again.”
He says teams are working to contain any potential flare-ups and further spread with all necessary resources deployed where required.

“Residents are urged to remain vigilant, avoid areas where possible and report any new flare-ups,” adds Van Niekerk.
