Police making an arrest
Police in Mpumalanga say they arrested more than 800 people for various offences during the Easter Holidays.
The majority of them were arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol. More than 50 firearms, drugs weighing over 300 kilograms, livestock and a number of vehicles were confiscated during cross-border anti-crime operations.
The Acting Provincial Police Commissioner, Major General Zeph Mkhwanazi has hailed Operation Paseka as a success.
“At least 206 motorists were arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol. Twenty-five suspects were apprehended for sexual abuse-related charges. People were arrested for armed robbery and murder, respectively. About 80 vehicles, including suspected stolen bakkies recovered along the Lebombo borderline were impounded.”
