Over 50 couples to wed at IPHC mass wedding in Westonaria

More than 50 couples are expected to tie the knot this afternoon during a mass wedding at the International Pentecostal Holiness Church (IPHC), in Westonaria on Gauteng’s Westrand.

The Church is one of the largest religious denominations in Southern Africa. Congregants have arrived in large numbers wearing their colourful church uniforms. Chairperson of the Church’s Executive Committee, Priest A.J. Wessie, says the mass wedding reflects the church’s commitment to unity and inclusivity.

He says female congregants are allowed to propose marriage to men.

“Women are free. They are regarded as human being equal to men. So if you are a woman and you feel you have a feeling for a man, you feel that you can have him as your husband, your mother is welcome to approach that man and propose to him. If the man is interested and willing, just like a man proposing to you, a woman has got the right also to propose to you. It is happening quite often and such marriages do last.”
