The Department of Higher Education says it has so far received more than 400 000 Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) applications for the 2026 academic year.
The Student Financial Aid Scheme has called on prospective students to apply before next month’s closing date.
Higher Education Department spokesperson Matshepo Seedat says most applications have been from matriculants, gap year and returning students.
The Minister of Higher Education and Training Buti Manamela has urged all prospective students to apply now for funding through the national NSFAS before applications close on 15 November 2025.
With just a month to go before the deadline, Manamela says that no late applications will be accepted this year.
The Minister has added that no child should miss out on higher education because they did not know how to apply and has called on students to log on to www.Mynsfas.Org.Za to make the applications.
