Various drugs and cash notes were confiscated during Operation Shanela in the Northern Cape.
Over 200 suspects have been arrested in Northern Cape for alleged murder, attempted murder, assault, rape, possession of dangerous weapons and for dealing in drugs.
The suspects were apprehended during a week-long Operation Shanela, targeted at combating crime.
Provincial police spokesperson Timothy Sam,says raids were conducted during compliance inspections at second-hand dealers, scrapyards and informal businesses.
“Disruptive actions were executed and led by the five district commissioners and senior officers across the province. These actions commenced on Monday, 30 June 2025 until Sunday 06 July 2025 and resulted in the subsequent apprehension and arrest of 236 suspects as well as the confiscation of numerous items. The targeted operations focused on roadblocks, vehicle check points, stop and searches, compliance inspections and activities targeting drug and contraband smuggling.”
In Roodepan, police followed up on information on the sale of dagga and pounced on a suspect in Lorato Park in Kimberley.
In Postmasburg, members of the Firearm, Liquor and Second-hand Goods arrested two 30-year-old suspects for possession of alleged stolen copper cables valued at approximately R170 000.
Large volumes of alcoholic beverages during raids at liquor outlets, drugs, dangerous weapons, firearms and cash that is believed to be the proceeds of crime were also confiscated during the operation.
