Over 130 drivers arrested for drunk driving in EC during Easter


The Eastern Cape Transport Department, says over 130 drivers have been arrested for drunk driving during the Easter Period. Provincial Transport Spokesperson, Unathi Binqose, says they are concerned about this number as traffic volumes are expected to pick up on Sunday as many people will be making their way back home.

Binqose says most of the arrests were recorded between Thursday and Friday.

“Sunday is posing a major challenge as traffic is expected to increase significantly particularly in our major corridors between some of the major cities across the province and across the country. We will have officers strategically placed to ensure your safety and they will be intelligence led uncompromising as always. We are urging road users to please work with us to ensure we are all safe. We will have zero tolerance on anyone who gets behind the wheel under influence of alcohol over 130 people have been arrested over this Easter.”
