The Western Cape Education Department says 73 000 Grade R learners and over 100 000 Grade 1 learners are starting the academic journey at “big school” today.
The department says 97 000 Grade 8 learners are starting high school in the province this morning.
Western Cape Minister of Education David Maynier says there are over one million learners enrolled in school across the province. Maynier was speaking at Tamboerskloof Primary School in Cape Town.
“We wish them all the best as they start their school career. We also have 97 000 grade 8 learners starting high school. a crucial next step in their journey towards their future studies and careers. We wish our learners, school staff, officials and learners a happy and productive year ahead.”
