Damage at Paarl Hospital after fire
The Western Cape Department of Health and Wellness says the Outpatient Department at Paarl Provincial hospital has sustained extensive damage during a fire.
Maternity patients have been evacuated to nearby facilities.
A small section of the hospital was affected.
Provincial Health Minister Mireille Wenger says early indications are that a vehicle parked next to the building caught alight, causing the fire to spread.
Councillor Stephen Korabie, Executive Mayor of Drakenstein Municipality, is on scene at Paarl Hospital, where the Municipality’s Fire and Rescue Services have contained a fire that broke out earlier on 27 January 2026.https://t.co/lmztGuM4UH#ArriveAlive #HospitalFire pic.twitter.com/8ynagnAHkK

Wenger says that smoke led to the precautionary evacuation of the facility, with patients safely relocated.
The fire has since been contained.
Wenger explains, “Thanks to their coordinated response, patients were safely relocated and no injuries were reported. We are now focused on restoring services as quickly and safely as possible, while ensuring continuity of care for all affected patients.”
