O’Sullivan accused of wielding huge influence in the justice system

The Police Minister’s Chief of Staff, Cedrick Nkabinde, has accused forensic investigator Paul O’Sullivan of wielding huge influence in the criminal justice system.

Nkabinde has been testifying before Parliament’s Ad Hoc Committee in Cape Town. It is investigating allegations of criminal infiltration, corruption and political interference in the justice system.

During his statement before the committee, KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi claimed O’Sullivan may be an agent with the aim to destabilise the country.

Nkabinde told the committee that O’Sullivan yields huge influence that prevented him from being appointed in a position in SAPS.

“I was recommended for the post, waiting for appointment letter. Then Paul O’Sullivan wrote to the then National Commissioner, General Sitole, told him, ‘don’t you dare appoint that man’. Then at bottom he wrote to me, ‘how do you think I would allow this. I told you I won’t take my eyes off you’. And indeed I didn’t get the position,” says Nkabinde.

Meanwhile, Nkabinde says North West businessman Brown Mogotsi has always referred to the Police Minister Senzo Mchunu, who is currently on special leave, as his comrade.

He says Mogotsi was always mentioning people who are with him as comrades when meeting the minister.
