Orbit College and Casric Stars PSL playoff ends in stalemate

2 minutes

North-West-based Orbit College and Casric Stars F.C, which is based in the Mpumalanga province, played to a goalless draw in the first Premier Soccer League promotion/relegation playoff in Rustenburg.

The two teams, which finished second and third in the Motsepe Foundation Championship, along with Cape Town City, are in a three-horse race to win a place in the Betway premiership.

Orbit College launched an attack immediately at the start of the match. Defender, Siyabulela Mabele, tested Casric Stars keeper, Emile Lako. The visitors also attacked, with Orbit College keeper Sekhoane Moerane, doing well to deny them a goal on a number of occasions.

The match was still goalless at half-time. The two teams were deadlocked with under ten minutes of regulation time remaining. And the visitors pushed men upfront as they looked for an opening goal. But Orbit College’s defence was solid and dealt with the danger on more than one occasion.

The home side had a chance to score late in the match after they were awarded a free kick on the edge of the penalty area. However, the Stars’ defense stood its ground.

Casric Stars will be away to Cape Town City on Friday before Orbit travel to Cape Town to play the Citizens next Wednesday.
