Some residents of Orange Farm, south of Johannesburg, say they continue to live in fear due the high and persistent crime levels in the area.
This includes murders, gangsterism and robbery incidents.
Frustrated residents are also complaining about lack of police visibility and are accusing police of always not being there when they are needed.
One of the residents, who wanted to remain anonymous for fear of being targeted, says residents are under siege in their own area.
“We are living in fear as the community of Orange Farm because we are living under gangsterism all the stuff. We are living in fear. Every time you are coming back from work they are there at corners waiting for us, they will point us with guns trying to rob us so each time we are trying to get help we don’t get help we are afraid to come out as community. That’s all I can say. Not only one extension but all. Drieziek and all extensions of Orange Farms.”
