The City of Ekurhuleni‘s Disaster and Emergency Management Services says no casualties or injuries have been reported at the OR Tambo International Airport.
This after severe thunderstorms accompanied heavy rains late Friday evening and into the early hours of Saturday morning.
The rains caused floods in some parts on the airport’s terminals. Traffic around the airport was also severely affected as sections of the drop‑off and pick‑up areas as well as parts of the parking lot were inaccessible.
Despite the floods, eyewitnesses say flight schedules were not disrupted.
The City’s William Ntlandi says teams have been clearing affected areas.
“City of Ekurhureleni experienced heavy downpours in the early hours of this morning however no casualties or property affected were brought to the attention of emergency services.”
