Operational glitches that caused delays at OR Tambo Airport resolved

South Africa’s Air Traffic and Navigation Services (ATNS) says operational challenges that caused disruptions and departure delays at OR Tambo International Airport have been resolved.

The disturbances were caused by a failure in the Flight Plan Management system, affecting Air Traffic Control operations earlier today.

The ATNS says all flights are now operating.

ATNS Acting COO Carel Gersbach, says, “What has happened is the system as per its programming has cancelled various flights during the morning schedule on the automation system. And these had to be manually reworked onto the system by the controllers. which in turn also had some delays as you reverse to manual capturing rather than automated capturing. And all of these delays then compounded to the major challenges we’ve experienced.”
