Operation Dudula says it hopes global leaders attending the G20 Summit could assist the country in addressing its challenges with illegal immigration.
The group says it will hold a peaceful protest around the area of Nasrec Expo Centre this weekend, to highlight concerns about unemployment, crime and access to services, which they blame on illegal immigration.
The protest comes as South Africa hosts world leaders for the G20 Summit.
Operation Dudula President, Zandile Dabula, says they will not disrupt any proceedings.
“The only reason we are going there is that we need the attention of the President and we would not want to disrupt any proceedings. The only problem becomes the law enforcers when they want to work against communities.”
“It going to be very meaningless if south Africans continue to struggle to find work, access to quality, services and don’t feel safe in their own country due to illegal immigration and we really want this topic of immigration to be part of engagements and others leaders can help SA because it looks like the president of this country is battling with the issue of immigration.” – Reporting by Ntombi Sithubi.
