One person missing in flooding in northern KZN

One person is missing after heavy rain caused localised flooding in Dundee in the Endumeni Municipality and three wards in the Umlalazi Municipality near Eshowe in KwaZulu-Natal on Saturday night.

The provincial Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs Department says it has also received a report on an incident in which one person was injured after being struck by lightning; however, details are still sketchy.

The department says it has dispatched disaster management teams to both municipalities. It also says a search is underway for the missing 35-year-old woman.

Department spokesperson Senzelwe Mzila says, “In a separate incident, an elderly person was struck by lightning in ward 8. The individual was immediately transported to the hospital and is receiving medical care. MEC Buthelezi has conveyed his heartfelt wishes for a speedy recovery. The MEC has urged residents across KwaZulu-Natal to remain vigilant as inclement weather conditions are expected to persist throughout the spring and summer seasons, with above-average rainfall forecasted.”
