One lane open on N1 in Limpopo after crash kills five people

One lane is open for traffic on the N1 road between Modimolle and Mokgopong in Limpopo after a crash in which five people were killed on Wednesday morning.

Two other people were critically injured and taken to the FH Odendaal Hospital in Mokopane.

Limpopo experiences high traffic volumes and road carnage during the Easter period, as travellers head to various destinations.

The provincial Transport Department’s Tshifhiwa Dali urges motorists to obey speed limits and avoid drinking and driving.

“Congestion on the N1 to Limpopo is reaching the highest peak. We therefore urge the motorist to exercise caution and adhere strictly to the rules of the road, this includes obeying speed limits, avoid driving under the influence of alcohol. We need to ensure that vehicles are roadworthy at all times. We must wear safety belts.”
