The South African Weather Service (SAWS) has issued a level five warning for severe thunderstorms expected over the central and eastern parts of the country.

No major incidents have been reported throughout the City of Johannesburg overnight due to severe thunderstorms. Residents are still urged to continue exercising caution, especially in our low-lying areas; our residents are urged to avoid crossing at river streams while conducting daily activities,” advises EMS spokesperson Robert Mulaudzi.

“Our motorists are still urged to continue exercising caution by avoiding to cross flooded roads and low-lying bridges, and also extend a safe distance. Our aquatic rescue unit remains on high alert since we’re told we’re still going to receive a lot of rainfall throughout the day. We have got all our disaster management monitoring teams in all seven regions of the city,” he adds.
