One person has been killed and 17 others injured in a collision between a bakkie and a truck on the R59 freeway in Alberton, east of Johannesburg. Ekurhuleni Emergency Services personnel found the construction workers along the freeway following the crash which happened on Friday. Ekurhuleni Emergency spokesperson William Ntladi says the vehicles were travelling in the same direction when the driver of the bakkie lost control.

“In that ordeal an articulated truck loaded with metal pipes crashed onto the back of the bakkie, scattering all 18 occupants across the freeway. One passenger was fatally injured. All other seventeen passengers sustained moderate to intense injuries. They were all medically treated by parademics on scene before being transported to various medical facilities across Ekurhuleni.”
