One arrested in Polokwane over Saulsville tavern shooting case probe

National Police spokesperson Athlenda Mathe has confirmed that police have arrested one suspect in Polokwane, in connection with the Saulsville tavern shooting.

Earlier this month, multiple gunmen opened fire inside a shebeen in Saulsville, Gauteng, killing at least 12 people and wounding 13 others.

The motive for the shooting is unclear. Police are still searching for two more suspects.

Mathe says the suspect has appeared before the Polokwane Magistrates Court on charges of unlawful possession of firearms and ammunition.

Mathe says the suspect will later be transported to Pretoria, where he will be charged with 12 counts of murder and 13 counts of attempted murder.

“I can confirm that we have arrested one suspect in that case, a 32-year-old man. He is one of three suspects identified as a person of interest. Information was followed up on this suspect in which he left Johannesburg to Limpopo. The Gauteng tracking team alerted Limpopo who mobilised their teams and identified his vehicle and cornered him outside Polokwane where he was with an unlicensed firearm and rounds of ammunition.”
