The love affair between China’s Qinwen Zheng and Roland Garros is growing stronger.

The eighth seeded Zheng, who won gold on the red clay of Roland Garros at last year’s Paris Olympics, moved into the third round of the French Open without too much trouble.

The likable 22-year-old Barcelona resident, recorded a 6-2, 6-3 victory over Emiliana Arango of Colombia.

Zheng is joined in the second round by last year’s runner-up, fourth seed Jasmine Paolini.

The 29-year-old from Italy was just as impressive, cruising to a 6-3, 6-3 victory over Australian Ajla Tomljanović.

Paolini, who only has one WTA Tour title to her name, was also runner-up at Wimbledon last year.

Meanwhile, in the men’s singles there was a major upset in the second round in Paris.

Two-time French Open runner-up and reigning Madrid Open champion, Casper Ruud, was sent packing.

Nuno Borges of Portugal beat the seventh seeded Norwegian 6-2, 4-6, 6-1, 6-love to advance to the third round.

Eighth seed Lorenzo Musetti of Italy had no such problems. He recorded a straight sets victory over Colombian Daniel Galan 6-4, 6-love, 6-4.
