Officer injured during CIT heist in Bloemfontein

A traffic officer has been shot and wounded following a cash-in -transit (CIT) robbery near Hillside View in Bloemfontein.

The CIT vehicle was travelling on the OR Tambo road when another vehicle rammed into it.

The vehicle rolled into the field next to the road. The driver, Isaac Miya says more than 10-armed men dressed in blue overalls with balaclavas approached them and ejected two staff members out of the vehicle.

He says a traffic vehicle made a U- turn and the suspects started shooting.

A traffic officer was shot in the leg. Free State MEC for Community Safety Jabu Mbalula says the officer is in a stable condition in hospital.

“Something that is quite disturbing and I think these criminals took advantage that it is Easter. The road is not busy, everybody is busy minding their business and going to change and stuff like that. So, that’s what happened this morning, so one of the officers became collateral. He sustained injury but we just spoke to her and she’s doing well, she is in Busamed, one of the best hospitals and she is stable.”
