The investigating officer in the murder for insurance claims case, Keshi Mabunda has told the Polokwane Magistrate’s Court that his witnesses may be endangered if one of the accused is released on bail.

Florah Shokane is applying for bail after being arrested with her mother, Rachel Kutumela and aunt, Anna Shokane in December in connection with killing nine people and claiming money from insurance schemes for their deaths.

Mabunda says Florah Shokane has been interfering with witnesses since her arrest.

He says he fears that she may harm those who do not cooperate with her.

Mabunda also testified that Shokane lied in her affidavit when she stated that she was employed before her arrest, her children have no caregiver since her incarceration.

“We have got a very strong case against this accused your worship. If these policies were not taken against the deceased, they would still be alive right now. By pursing someone to open a policy, when you are not even related to that person, fund that policy and all of a sudden that person is killed? She has already interfered with investigations, after the arrest of accused number one she went and approached a witness that I forced her to depose an affidavit.”
