Off duty Metro officer, another person killed at Durban’s North Beach

Durban Central Police are investigating two counts of murder after an off-duty Metro Police officer and another person were shot and killed at a parking lot at Durban’s North Beach in the early hours of this morning.

KwaZulu-Natal police spokesperson Robert Netshiunda says reports indicate that the off-duty Metro Police inspector and another person were patrons at an entertainment venue when an altercation ensued.

“The altercation continued to the parking lot, where gunshots were fired. Another Metro Police officer, who was in the company of the inspector, reportedly went to the parking lot and saw the other person shooting at the off-duty Metro Police officer. The shooter allegedly turned the gun on the other Metro Police officer, who drew his firearm and fired several shots at the shooter. The 32-year-old man was declared dead at the scene, whilst the 39-year-old off-duty Metro Police officer was declared dead upon arrival at hospital. The cause of the alteration is being investigated.”
