Nzimande to introduce new initiatives to boost maths, science access

The Science, Technology and Innovation Minister, Blade Nzimande says his department plans to introduce a number of initiatives to improve students’ access to Maths and Science. He says this includes introducing National Science Month in 2026, upscaling Science centers through mobile laboratories to reach schools without labs.

This as this week marks 25 years of National Science Week, Nzimande was speaking at the launch of National Science week at the Tshwane University of Technology in Pretoria.

“Our decision to upscale our science engagement interventions is informed by a number of considerations, one is my dream of seeing each province have a high quality science center before the end of this administration – the other is the realisation that if our department places science and technology innovation at the center of government, education, industry and society will have to change a number of things that we are doing currently.”
