Police in North West have welcomed the 20-year sentence handed down to a 66-year-old man who was convicted of raping his then 18-year-old daughter in 2022.
The Bafokeng Regional Court in Rustenburg handed down the sentence on Thursday.
Provincial police spokesperson Sabata Mokgwabone says, “The accused was found guilty of raping his biological daughter in November 2022, at Chaneng Village near Phokeng. The accused, who was expected to protect and care for his daughter, then aged 18, instead betrayed her trust by threatening her with a knife and violated her.”
“Despite the accused pleading not guilty, the powerful testimony of the victim, supported by DNA evidence, proved beyond doubt that he had committed the crime. The convict’s claim that the act was consensual was firmly rejected by the court.”
