Numsa condemns Venus Security for alleged failure to pay salaries

The National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa (Numsa) says it condemns the bosses at Venus Security for allegedly failing to pay workers their salaries.

The union says the last time workers received their salary was in February this year and have not received a cent since then.

Numsa spokesperson Phakamile Hlubi-Majola says the situation is affecting security workers who are stationed at Bram Fischer Airport in Bloemfontein, Upington International Airport, Kathu Airport and Kimberley Airport.

Hlubi-Majola says the union rejects the reasons advanced by the bosses as feeble and unfortunate.

“The issue of non-payment or late payment has been ongoing with impunity. The security company has been favored for this job in spite of not satisfying the terms and failing to provide the requisite documents. Numsa asks itself why the company in question was allocated this tender when key documents are not presented.”

“This calls into question the criteria used in identifying potential service providers for the company. On May 8, Numsa had met with Mr Moeketsi Sempe who represented ACSA, to discuss how it can assist in resolving such situations.”

“However, Mr Sempe confirmed on record that they did not pay Venus Security because Venus doesn’t have a BBBEE certificate, CSD and it also does not have a tax certificate,” explains Hlubi-Majola.
