NTA cautions against threatening scholars in taxis

The National Taxi Alliance (NTA) says it views threats to take scholars using its services out of taxis across Gauteng ton Friday in a serious light.

Alliance spokesperson Theo Malele says those who made the remarks should not try to disrupt their business.

His remarks come amid the announcement by the Gauteng Learner Transport Organisation that operators affiliated to them will not be operating due to a scheduled march to the provincial legislature.

Malele says the rights to continue economic activity must be respected.

“All school kids boarding taxis to school will be serviced and no one will be allowed to stop them from using our taxi service to school tomorrow or any other time. Whilst the NTA respects the rights of people to embark on strike, its rights to economic activity must be respected.”

Meanwhile, the African Scholar Governing Association (ASGA) is calling on the Presidency to intervene and ensure a swift resolution after they handed a memorandum to National Treasury.

The association says President Cyril Ramaphosa must urgently ensure the swift resolution of a long‑running payment dispute to settle the outstanding debt owed by the Gauteng Department of Education to small bus operators.
