NSRI search and rescue boat
The National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI) in KwaZulu-Natal has advised anglers to be cautious as the new moon spring tide is peaking this weekend.
NSRI spokesperson Andrew Ingram says the high tide will cause strong currents in the afternoon.
“Anglers are reminded to wear life jackets and carry flotation equipment, and boaters should use the NSRI’s free SafeTrax application. Above all, remember that alcohol and water don’t mix and that children should always be supervised when they’re in or near water.”
Ingram adds: “The effects of the spring tide will last for several days. So time your coastal activities with care and save the NSRI’s emergency number 087-094-9774 in your mobile phone.”
As the school holidays are upon us, The National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI) urges holidaymakers and visitors to the coast to exercise caution as the upcoming new moon spring tide is set to peak on Saturday and Sunday, 29 and 30 March 2025.
