NSRI search and rescue respond to a distress call.
The National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI) says it attended to four successful rescue operations over the weekend.
NSRI spokesperson Craig Lambinon says the rescue missions included a fishing craft, a sailing yacht and a kite boarder.
Lambinon says the NSRI crew was activated offshore in Strand where five local fishermen were saved from sinking,
“A sailing yacht with two people on board was assisted by NSRI Gordon’s Bay after being stranded on a sand bank near Gordon’s Bay harbour.
A kite boarder was assisted by a good samaritan on a kayak on the Klein River lagoon, he was helped ashore by NSRI Hermanus.
A sailing yacht drifting shoreward with seven people on board was safely towed by NSRI Richards’ Bay to the Zululand Yacht Club in heavy sea conditions. The swift response and cooperation of all involved in these operations is commended.”
