NSFAS says it made strides in ensuring that students are funded

The National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) says it has made strides in ensuring that students are adequately funded in the 2026 academic year.

NFSAS acting CEO Waseem Carrim says R54 billion has been set aside to assist needy students with education funding in this academic year.

Carrim says the registration portal closes at the end of this month.

“I think we have really done a lot to plan better, to communicate better and be more transparent. We released the majority of our funding decisions before the matric results would have been released. That assisted in reducing the pressure and anxiety in the system. What we did notice is that a few students had outstanding documentation on first-time entry. Which included the consent form for us to be able to access their parents’ household income.”
