NPA to transfer recovered Mahikeng properties to local municipality

The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) is expected to hand over properties that its Asset Forfeiture Unit has recovered in Mahikeng to the local municipality next Wednesday. A developer was contracted to build properties in Mahikeng but this was done on land which was irregularly purchased. It is alleged the land was sold at R144-million but the municipality is reported to have only
received R5-million. The provincial government entered into an agreement with Marang Estates housing project in 2012, to build 2 400 units in Mmabatho.

According to the NPA, the handover will include 23 portions of land. It will also include unfinished residential blocks and building materials. These will be transferred to the Social Housing Regulatory Authority. The handover will be led by the Director of NPA, Advocate Andy Mothibi.
