The state in the case involving escaped convicted murderer and rapist, Thabo Bester, says it is ready for trial. This is despite them asking for the matter to be moved from February to July.

Bester’s co-accused, including his girlfriend Nandipha Magudumana, are facing charges of corruption, violating a body, defeating the ends of justice, aiding and abetting a prisoner’s escape, and harbouring an escaped convict.

Bester faces a charge of escaping from prison.

Free State National Prosecuting Authority Spokesperson Mojalefa Senokotsoane says they have gathered comprehensive evidence.

“As the National Prosecuting Authority, we are fully prepared for the trial of Thabo Bester, Nandipha Magudumana as well as their co-accused in this matter. This case is of significant public interest, and we remain committed that justice is served.”

The state has gathered comprehensive evidence and is ready to present its case before the court. We respect the judicial processes and will allow it to unfold without speculation. Our focus remains on accountability and upholding the rule of law,” adds Senokotsoane.
