The final State Capture Report seen on a desk at the Union Buildings in Pretoria.
Former evidence leader in the State Capture Commission Advocate Paul Pretorius says it is concerning that the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) is not capacitated to effectively prosecute those implicated in state capture corruption.
This after retired Chief Justice Raymond Zondo said he is doubtful whether Parliament had put in place measures to prevent corruption from taking place, as per the recommendations from the State Capture Commission Report.
He delivered the keynote address at the four-day 15th Commonwealth Regional conference for heads of Anti-Corruption Agencies in Africa, taking place in Cape Town.
Pretorius says something needs to be done to capacitate the NPA.
“Not to long ago, a month ago, the investigative directorate had about 20 of its own investigators and borrowed others. So, the capacity of the NPA is a huge problem. The technology is an issue that needs to be addressed.”
“Its access to the Zondo Commission archives it’s an issue that needs to be addressed. There are so many issues in analysing this issue. It is not an easy issue to analyse and come up with an answer,” explains Pretorius.
