Hospital PPE’s
The National Prosecuting Authority in the Northern Cape says seven people, including high-ranking provincial Health Department officials and a company, Asijiki Soundbytes, have appeared in court in connection with the alleged irregular procurement of personal protective equipment (PPE) worth millions of rands in 2020.
NPA spokesperson Mojalefa Senokoatsane says the accused include former Head of Department, Dr Dion Theys, and the department’s former CFO, Mosimanegape Daniel Gaborone.
Senokoatsane says they face charges including contravention of the PFMA, fraud, corruption, money laundering, and contraventions of the Medicines and Related Substances Act.
“Relating to the alleged irregular awarding of a PPE contract worth more than 13 million rands during 2020, all accused were granted bail of R5 000 each with strict conditions not to interfere with witnesses. The case has been postponed to 03 March 2026 for further investigation.”
