North West residents raise concerns over prolonged water shortage

Residents of Besisvlei near Lichtenburg in the Ditsobotla Local Municipality in the North West are raising serious concerns over a prolonged water shortage in their area.

According to the community, they have been without water for two weeks, and are forced to travel long distances to fetch water from nearby areas.

Residents expressed frustration at the lack of communication from the authorities about the cause of the water shortage.

The Ngaka Modiri Molema District Municipality has yet to respond to residents’ concerns.

One resident says, “”There has been no meeting or any form of communication to inform us about the cause of the water shortage. Our elders are struggling, they have to wait in long lines under the scorching heat to fetch water from nearby areas. We urgently need water in Blesivlei , please assist us .”

Another resident says, “The water supply was fine, but suddenly it stopped. When we inquired about the issue, we were told something had broken.”
